Derek Baker The wandering developer

Introducing the Week that was.

What is TWTW and what do I hope to gain from it?

The origin story

Back in a previous life, before I was a developer an old CEO would have us send an email on how our week went, titled “The week that was.” It was an opportunity for the CEO to get an understanding of what was working and not working for the team without having to have individual meetings. It was also an opportunity at the end of the week for the team to reflect on the week that just happened. The format was simple:

  1. What went well this week?
  2. What didn’t go well this week?
  3. What have I got planned for next week?
  4. What has excited me outside of work? (TV, Film etc)

What has TWTW got to do with this page?

To cut a long story short, every Friday I want to use the TWTW format to document my thoughts and experiences as a junior developer navigating this industry. I haven’t been the most confident writer, which has caused me to be inconsistent when it comes to writing (have a look at my medium page). Hopefully restricting myself to such a short format should allow me to be more consistent with my output (we will see lol).

What to expect from my format

  • What went well this week?
  • What didn’t go well this week?
  • What did I learn this week?
    • This may expand to a separate post on the specific thing I learned (i.e How to manipulate an array in Javascript)
  • What has me excited outside of work?

Just want to thank you for joining me on this journey. I appreciate the reads and any and all feedback.
